History

Adams Woodcrest History

Woodcrest of Decatur evolved from within the Decatur community as a place where residents could retire in a comfortable and peaceful rural setting. Located on over 100 total acres, our grounds include a 10-acre wooded patch with trails developed by the local scouts for the enjoyment of the residents. There are also two ponds on the campus with one stocked for fishing. The ponds are also used for geothermal heating of the Campus Center and the Apartments, a very efficient and economical heating system.

Started as a nonprofit community in 1989 with 17 of the local churches of various faiths as the membership body, the community was sold to the Adams Health Network, a nonprofit corporation, in 1992. Starting with three residents in November of 1989, there are now over 200 residents who call Woodcrest home and over 150 people who are employed here.

Woodcrest is a Continuing Care Retirement Community that offers various levels of living from total independent living through long-term nursing care and short-term rehabilitation. Woodcrest is in Decatur, Ind., a community of 9,800 residents and the county seat of Adams County. Decatur is about 20 miles south of Fort Wayne, located in northeast Indiana. Being in a small rural community is an advantage, as many people have roots in communities much like Decatur. The open spaces, the quiet, friendly atmosphere and the smell of clean air are nice to come home to. Woodcrest offers a vibrant lifestyle in a magnificent natural setting. Woodcrest is a member of the Indiana Association of Homes and Services for the Aging.

Adams Woodcrest Assisted Living History

Adams Woodcrest Assisted Living was previously a nursing home called Lakeside Manor. Adams Memorial Hospital acquired the building in the early 1990s and redesigned it into apartments. At that time, the building was named Evergreen Court Apartments. The first resident to move into the facility was Rosemary Miller on August 31, 1996. Evergreen only had three residents until the end of 1996 and has grown considerably to 58 apartments today. In 2012, the organization was renamed to Adams Woodcrest.
